For immediate release:

AHOY Comics’ Controversial and Acclaimed Comic about Jesus Christ and His Superhero Roommate is Resurrected with SECOND COMING: TRINITY

2022 Eisner Winner Mark Russell, Co-Creator Richard Pace and Artist Leonard Kirk All Returning for the Third Series

You welcomed Jesus with open arms in SECOND COMING. You marveled at his miraculous return in SECOND COMING: ONLY BEGOTTEN SON. Now the book that turned the comics industry upside-down with “quite a bit of humor…[and] a lot of heart” (The New York Times) is back for its third act with SECOND COMING: TRINITY. Written and co-created by 2022 Eisner winner Mark Russell (Not All Robots, BILLIONAIRE ISLAND) with art by co-creator Richard Pace and Leonard Kirk, SECOND COMING: TRINITY finds Jesus Christ, the Son of God, tackling his biggest challenge in 2000 years: babysitting a child with super powers! Meanwhile, his roommate—the superhero called Sunstar—faces his greatest enemy, and his own guilt, in a court of law. The first issue of the news series lands in stores this spring and will feature a cover by Richard Pace as well as a variant cover by Howard Chaykin (American Flagg!, Hey Kids! Comics!).

“If you haven't read a SECOND COMING series and you think you know what it is, I guarantee you do not,” said AHOY Editor in Chief Tom Peyer. “The high concept of 'What if Jesus lived with a superhero?' is an arresting one, but it doesn't begin to suggest what a wise, kind, and funny piece of work its creators have given us.”

"So much of what I'd planned from the beginning for the story of Sunstar and his roommate Christ happens in the upcoming fourth series, so I'm really glad we've made it this far,” said writer Mark Russell. “The biggest moments of this series are still ahead."

“I’m really excited to join this team,” said editor Sarah Litt. “And I’m excited for the reader to meet the newest member of the family.”

“For the fans who've been waiting for that full issue fight between God and Sunstar, I've got some bad news for you…” said artist Richard Pace.

SECOND COMING: TRINITY will be published monthly by AHOY Comics and available in stores on April 5, 2022.

About AHOY Comics

AHOY Comics debuted in the fall of 2018 with the bold promise for readers to expect more from its line of comic book magazines, featuring comic book stories, poetry, prose fiction, and cartoons. The independent, Syracuse-based company is the brainchild of publisher Hart Seely, an award-winning reporter whose humor and satire has appeared in The New York Times and on National Public Radio. AHOY’s editor-in-chief Tom Peyer is committed to publishing comics with a (dark) sense of humor with titles like the religious satires SECOND COMING and HIGH HEAVEN, the superhero parodies THE WRONG EARTH and HASHTAG: DANGER, the sci-fi spoof CAPTAIN GINGER, the time travel tales PLANET OF THE NERDS and BRONZE AGE BOOGIE, and the humor/horror anthology series EDGAR ALLAN POE’S SNIFTER OF BLOOD.

About the Creators

Mark Russell is the author of not one, but two, books about the Bible: God Is Disappointed in You and Apocrypha Now. In addition, he is the writer behind various DC comic books such as Prez, The Flintstones, and Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles. He lives in obscurity with his family in Portland, Oregon.

Richard Pace is an artist from Canada, who has worked for several of the major American comic companies as either an artist or a writer. Among his credits are Terror Inc., Night Thrasher, Midnight Sons Unlimited, X-Men and The New Warriors at Marvel, and Starman at DC. As a writer, he has worked on Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham in cooperation with Mike Mignola.

Leonard Kirk began his comic book career with Malibu Comics. He has drawn numerous titles for Marvel and DC, including Fantastic Four, Star Wars, Marvel Zombies, and extended collaborations with writer Peter David on Supergirl and X-Factor. He, wisely, lives north of the border and recently drew a revival of the Canadian comics icon Captain Canuck.
